i-Taipei!

Part 1

We always know the next destination after Seoul would be Taiwan. And when hubby's friend offered an apartment for Taiwan trip, we knew it was time to go! And we had some good company too!

If there is anything we wish we would have done better, it would be the planning. Both hubby and myself were swamped with work prior to the trip, so we did not do much planning. We relied pretty much on friends' recommendations.

Perhaps the only research I did was for fabric shopping, haha! I had to at least know the name of the fabric market so that we could somehow ask our way there.

Since we are on the topic of fabric; I have to say the fabric market was heavenly! We stayed at 忠孝东路. From where we were, we took a train to Zhong Shan station, and took a bus from the station. It may sound a bit daunting with the train and bus; the trip to the fabric market was nothing of a hassle. The personnel at the train stations were extremely helpful whenever we asked for directions. Follow the directions, and you would definitely be there.

For Singaporeans, it was not too different from our public transport system. Plenty of train stations and buses just like Singapore.

Take the train to Zhong Shan MRT station from wherever you are, take exit 2 and turn left. Walk for about one, two minutes and a bus stop would be in sight, which is right in front of some shops. Take bus 518, and alight at Nanjing West Road (Button Street), which should be only a few stops away. Start looking out once the bus makes its first turn. We asked the bus driver to alert us the right stop to alight, which he did happily.

Upon alighting, continue to walk forward a short distance, until you see this:

Cross the road, and walk through this market. When we reached this market, most of the market vendors had more or less closed their stalls.

You would see the back of Yong Le fabric centre after coming out from the market; its slightly rundown state belied the gems it had inside! This is how the official entrance of the building looks like:

Enter the building, and take the lift or stairs to the second level. Da-da!

I love the variety of fabric there - knits, linen, cotton, fabric for sofa, curtains, costumes etc. I got some smaller pieces of fabric for toddler's wear; mostly for skirt or dresses.

Besides the variety, I love the honesty. Ask them anything about the fabric, and they are able to tell you - does the fabric shrink after wash, what is this fabric suitable for, can I throw the completed piece into the washing machine etc. All my queries were answered. Most of the fabric (at least for those that I bought) were made in Taiwan, and somehow that gave me comfort on the quality. The fabric is sold in yard, and the fabric I was looking at ranges from NT150 to NT300.

There was a night market, Ning Xia, near to the fabric market. We did not plan to be there deliberately on the same day or after the fabric market though it was recommended by a friend. While we were walking back to the station, we saw the market, and went in for a round. It is a pretty small street, focusing mostly on food. I ordered some BBQ vegetables, which were really nice, and hubby bought one of his favourite - duck necks.

By the time we reached the apartment, hubby was hungry again! We unloaded and went out for supper.

This was taken just right outside our apartment.

Again, I have to praise the Heatec clothing that I brought for the trip. They were simply wonderful, even at 14 degree Celsius! I could not feel warmer!
